Dim light is treated as lightly obscured. Lightly obscured gives the following conditions: Disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight. That's it. WebSounds like you may have forgotten that complete darkness, with darkvision means perception checks are made at disadvantage. Without darkvision a check isnt made at all. And the light means your party gets to roll without the disadvantage. We tend to forget this little tip. I've had this problem as well.
