I have always ran external tranny coolers whether my radiator had tranny cooler fittings or not. They are extremely inexpensive compared to the cost of tranny rebuild. In your case however, you added big mud tires which lowers the effective gear ratio of the truck. Now don't confuse lower ratio with lower gear as they are opposite each other.
