WebThe parathyroid glands are four small glands (each about the size of a grain of rice) found in the neck, close to the thyroid gland. They produce the hormone called parathyroid hormone (also called PTH). This hormone is important because it helps control the amount of calcium and phosphorus in your body. WebLithium is generally safe to take for a long time. Most people take it for years with no problems. If you've been taking lithium for some time, it can cause weight gain. It can also cause problems with your kidneys or thyroid gland. Common signs of an underactive thyroid are tiredness, weight gain and feeling depressed.
